The Start of a New School Year

It’s a new school year over at Broadmoor, and we're off to a great start! Our young ones (many of whom are even younger than usual this year!) are settling into their classes, and our families are getting into the swing of their work-day activities. Our days are filled with music, dancing, climbing, digging, glueing, and painting - and the kids couldn’t be happier!

But, it hasn't been all roses.

As many of you know, Broadmoor Preschool was broken into late last summer, and just before the start of the new school year. Our school community was shocked and hurt, but was able to weather the blow thanks to the working hands and generous spirits of those that sprang into action to make things right.

Alumni and friends rallied to pick-up the broken pieces, tidy the mess, and replace much of what was taken during the break-in. Broadmoor was back in tip-top shape before we knew it, and just in time to welcome our new preschoolers and their families.

We are so deeply grateful for everyone who came to our aid, and while we will likely miss folks while attempting to thank each of you, we thought we would still give it a try. From the entire Broadmoor Preschool community, we’d like to express SPECIAL THANKS to the following groups and individuals:

  • San Leandro Unified School District (SLUSD)

  • Mike McLaughlin, Superintendent

  • Bradley Frazier, Adult School Principal

  • Laura Gomez, Adult School Office (for dealing with the the frenzy of ordering and pick-up of items)

  • SLUSD Maintenance and Technology team for site support

  • Rocky Medeiros with SLUSD for quick response and support

  • Larry Simon, SLUSD Tech Team

  • San Leandro Police Department: Officer Prasad and Officer Lemmon

  • Broadmoor alumni and friends who came to help clean, bought new materials, gathered donations:

    • Sadie Alvarado and Family

    • Frank and Tice Banks

    • Elutilo Family

    • Amy Hagigi for relabeling everything and helping sanitize

    • Hathorn Family

  • Amy and Rachel for initially handling the break in, police report, and cleaning up the mess; Amy for coordinating HazMat cleaning and break in details from start to finish

  • New AM families who came and helped clean and sanitize on the weekend: Ryan, Simon, Charla and Meggie

  • Broadmoor Board

With this situation behind us, we look forward to sharing more of the magic happening at Broadmoor Preschool in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned!
